How Chatterbox is produced
Since the 2006 Winter Issue (No. 39) the art and layout work for Chatterbox has been done using Apple Pages on an Intel iMac.
Pages allows the importation of page layouts as pdf's, so it is possible for many people to submit page layouts for inclusion into the master layout (follow the links from "Contribute your item" on the left of this page if you would like to know more about this). Once the compilation is completed and has been proof read, the final copy is transferred to disk as a pdf for transfer and input to our desktop Mac Mini, and from there to our printer. Our new Konica-Minolta Bizhub C253, supplied and maintained by Highland Office Equipment, is able to print colour and B&W in one operation and gives flexibility of distribution of colour-printed pages through the magazine. The first issue to be printed on this new machine was No.45, in the summer of 2008, and we are now settling into a routine 44 page magazine. The amount of colour is, of course, determined by cost restraints and we continue to try to maximise our colour content.
